Advising

Here at MEIS, we are dedicated to helping you throughout your degree. While you are responsible for knowing the requirements for your degree, your faculty advisor, the Graduate Coordinator, and the Director of Graduate Studies are all available to provide guidance throughout your time with us.

Your faculty advisor will help you plan your course of study and set timelines for degree completion.  You should meet with your faculty advisor your first semester and fill out a Plan of Study degree completion sheet. The Graduate Coordinator and Director of Graduate Studies will make sure you have up-to-date information about departmental and university policies, deadlines, and requirements.  For questions about course waivers, credit reductions, enrollment forms, or other administrative matters, please contact the Graduate Coordinator or the Director of Graduate Studies.  Many of your questions can be answered by reviewing the worksheets and forms available on these pages, so please familiarize yourself with what is on here.

Faculty Advising

You will be assigned a faculty advisor upon entering the program, based upon the area(s) of interest identified in your application. You are free to change your advisor at any time. Simply contact the Program Coordinator and they will work with you.  It is common for students to change advisors as they become familiar with all faculty members and find common interests, work on different research projects, change their focus of study.

Faculty advisors are available to assist you with questions about academic topics such as which courses to take, how to develop a timeline for thesis completion, and which area of study is best suited to your goals.

You should meet with your faculty advisor upon entering the program, and meet regularly if you are changing your Plan of Study or interests.
