MEIS Annual Lecture

MEIS Annual Lecture

On Tuesday, October 24 the Middle East & Islamic Studies (MEIS) program hosted its Annual Lecture, Palestine Anatomy of An Abyss led by Mouin Rabbani. He is an independent analyst, commentator, and researcher specializing in the contemporary Middle East.

meis1Rabbani’s lecture examined the present crisis of the Palestinian national movement in terms of its various domestic dimensions as well as external challenges. He offered insight into the prospects for Palestinian national reconciliation and the potential for renewed conflict with Israel. Additionally, Rabbani analyzed President Trump's declared objective of pursuing "the ultimate deal.” The crises of both Fatah, Hamas, and the Palestinian Authority were discussed, particularly in light of the recent initiatives by Hamas to pursue an agreement with Fatah renegade Muhammad Dahlan and PA leader Mahmoud Abbas.

After the lecture, MEIS Director, Dr. Bassam Haddad, moderated a discussion between Rabbani and students. The audience asked insightful questions, in particular about the effects of the Trump administration on Palestine.
