The Middle East Policy Group is honored to have Prof. Bassam Haddad talk about the Syrian uprising in its sixth year anniversary.
"Over the past six years, the uprising in Syria has been transformed from a democratic protest against dictatorship to a regional and international proxy war with multiple attempts to redraw the political, and at times territorial, map of the region. This talk will address the causes, dynamics, and prospects for the Syrian uprising, with some focus on the implications of the regime’s recapture of the last metropolitan rebel stronghold in east Aleppo in December 2016.” -Prof. Haddad.

Bassam Haddad is an Associate Professor at the Schar School of Policy and Government and Director of the Middle East and Islamic Studies Program at George Mason University. He is the author of Business Networks in Syria: The Political Economy of Authoritarian Resilience (Stanford Press, 2012). Peter Mandaville is Professor of International Affairs at the Schar School of Policy and Government and he served as a Senior Advisor at the U.S. Department of State under Hillary Clinton and John Kerry.
